It  land called Talamanca, has wonderful places such as  Cahuita,  Puerto Viejo, Manzanillo, Bri brí, Sixaola, Gandoca, Yorking, Amubri and others. Each place has something very special so that you enjoy it.

It is also earth of cultures. The Indigenous live here more than 3000 years ago, they represent the Origen of our population.  The brown´s population arrived in 1872 from Jamaica to do the railroad, after the Chinese, later people from all over the world to the present. Here the population speaks Spanish, the others depending of their nationality. The browns are bi-lingual’s, they speak “PATUA” (a combination of English and French that was born in Jamaica).  The natives, they have their own dialects, for example; the Bri bri´s   speak Bri brí dialect, the Kabekar´s speak Kabekar dialect and successively. About culture now a days the new generation is losing the traditions. But   there are people making efforts to conserve the cultures taking the necessary time to teach the tradition doesn’t get lost. We can share with people of all parts of the world, as we share with people of other nations that are living with us.

This place has different flavor of foods, but the popular it is the Costa Rican dishes, “Gallo pinto”  “Casado” “meat pot”.-(Olla de carne) Caribbean “rice and beans”   these dishes are very delicious and the homemade bread are very special, you can find in all Costa Rican´s restaurants (soda), the drinks are very delicious, the most popular are the natural juice´s but the people like could and hot chocolate, and of course Indian’s typical foods. Also, here you will find restaurant with different flavor from different cultures around the world that you will taste. 

We are lower of the nature and we conserve it, we have nice beaches, Good Mountain, Beautiful Rivers. Also Bri brí´s Indian Territories, Kabekar’s Indian territory, Kekoldy´s Indian Territory,   Cahuita National Park,  Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge and International Friendship Park. As well as some organizations are doing effort to preserve the ecological environment, similar ours Centro Cultural Indígena.  The Talamanca Fauna are very special, here are animals such as Howler Monkey, White Face Monkey, Sloth´s, Raccoons, Coatis, squirrels, Agoutis, Paca, Kinkajou, Iguana  among others species. Also birds such as Toucan, Parrots, Doves, hawks, Woodpeckers and others. In the Caribbean Sea,   you can watch the Dolphins, Turtles, Colored fish and much more.    

The idea of Upakotur is belonged of  Enrique Morales Sanchez, a local Tourist Guide in Talamanca, Enrique works together with his Father Cándido Morales Morales. Upako it is Bri brí word   that´s means travel. Enrique and his Father Cándido chose this word in honor to the culture of Bri brí town.
